Fitbit: Changes to syncing with our apps

Do you use a Fitbit tracker to sync your steps and activities with one of our apps? Then there’s an important change coming soon.

Google is currently integrating Fitbit into
Google Health. As part of this transition, the existing connection that automatically transfers your steps and activities from Fitbit to our apps will be discontinued.

From September 30, 2026, your steps and activities can no longer be synced directly from Fitbit to our apps.

But don’t worry: Your Fitbit tracker will continue to work as usual, and the data you’ve already recorded will remain in our apps. Only the way your new steps and activities are transferred to our app is changing.

Are you using Android?

You can continue using your Fitbit tracker and syncing your steps and activities with our app. In future, your data will be transferred to our app via Health Connect, Android’s central platform for health data.

The new connection works as follows:

Fitbit tracker → Google Health (Fitbit) → Health Connect → our apps

To ensure that your steps and activities continue to be transferred automatically after the transition, we recommend setting up the connection before September 30, 2026.

Are you using an iPhone?

You can continue using your Fitbit tracker with an iPhone. Your steps and activities will be transferred to our apps via Apple Health to our app.

To do this, you’ll need the Google Health (Fitbit) App.. The previous Fitbit app has been renamed Google Health by Google and is also available under this name in the Apple App Store.

Google Health (Fitbit) allows you to share your Fitbit data, such as steps and activities, with Apple Health.

The new connection works as follows:

Fitbit tracker → Google Health (Fitbit) → Apple Health → our apps

Open Google Health (Fitbit) → tap your profile picture in the top right → Apps & services → select Apple Health → check the permissions and allow Google Health (Fitbit) to transfer your steps and activities to Apple Health.

Then check in our app whether Apple Health is connected as a tracker.

To ensure that your steps and activities continue to be transferred automatically after the transition, we recommend setting up the connection before September 30, 2026.

Your Fitbit tracker remains fully usable

You therefore don’t need a new tracker.. You only need to set up the new connection via Health Connect or Apple Health once so that your steps and activities continue to be transferred automatically to our apps after September 30, 2026.

With this one-time change, you can continue using your Fitbit tracker as usual – and your steps and activities will continue to be part of your progress in our apps.

Sync health and fitness data via Health Connect

Are you using Android?

As of June 30, 2025, Google officially discontinued data transfers via Google Fit.

This means that Health Connect is now the central platform for managing and syncing your health data on Android.

What is Health Connect?

Health Connect is the central hub for health and fitness data on Android. Compatible apps can use it to share data such as steps and activities. You decide which apps can access which data.

How to use Health Connect

From Android 14 onwards, Health Connect is built directly into Android and can be accessed through your smartphone’s settings.

On Android 13 or earlier, you can install Health Connect from the Google Play Store.

You can then connect the apps you want to use in Health Connect and choose which health and fitness data they are allowed to read or write.

Connect Apps to Health Connect

Open Health Connect → App permissions and select the App you want to connect. You can then choose the permissions you want to grant for data sharing.

Sync data

Once your apps are connected to Health Connect and the required permissions are enabled, the health and fitness data you have allowed can be synced between the respective apps.

Which apps and trackers are supported?

Health Connect is supported by numerous health and fitness apps. The data that can be transferred depends on the individual app and the data types you have enabled.
